COLLEGE PARK, Md. — The Washington Huskies women’s basketball team is headed to its first Sweet 16 in 15 years after its 74-65 upset victory over the Maryland Terrapins on Monday.
Kelsey Plum scored 32 points and added seven assists to help the seventh-seeded Huskies (24-10) shock the second-seeded Terrapins (31-4) in their own Xfinity Center, halting fifth-ranked Maryland’s pursuit of a third consecutive Final Four appearance.
Talia Watson added 20 points, and Chantel Osahor grabbed 15 rebounds and had nine points to seal UW’s trip to the Lexington Regional, its deepest tournament run since a 2001 trip to a regional final.
