UW unveils 'Dawgfather' Don James statue outside Husky Stadium

After patrolling its sidelines for nearly two decades, Don James has a permanent place at Husky Stadium after a statue of the legendary University of Washington football coach was unveiled Friday.

The statue, which stands at 8-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs approximately 500 pounds, features a crossed-arms James wearing his signature purple cap with a gold "W." The creation of the statue by artist Lou Cella was funded by donations from James' former players, coaches, family and friends.

James coached the Huskies for 18 seasons starting in 1975, leading the Huskies to a 153-57-2 overall record that included 98 Pac-10 conference victories, four Rose Bowl victories and a share of the 1991 national championship.
