UW men’s soccer eager to show it can reload, not rebuild

The Huskies lost Cristian Roldan and Darwin Jones to the Sounders, but they feel confident they can weather such departures and make another deep NCAA tournament run.

When scrolling down the University of Washington’s men’s soccer roster, it’s tempting to dwell on the names that have been removed longer than the ones added.

Of the squad that reached the round of 16 of last season’s NCAA tournament, Cristian Roldan and Darwin Jones are now Sounders, Andy Thoma is a Timber and Spencer Richey is manning the pipes for Vancouver’s USL team.

But to linger too long on the recent MLS SuperDraft picks is to do a disservice to the quality of the program that fifth-year coach Jaime Clark has built at UW – a program now deep enough to weather such departures and still have eyes on a deep NCAA tournament run.
