The Washington men’s rowing team won the Temple Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta on Sunday, and it was accomplished in record time.
The Husky eight, which was comprised of members from the second and third varsity eights from the past season, beat Oxford Brookes University in 5 minutes and 58 seconds, which was a record by five seconds. The old mark was set by Dutch crew A.S.R. Nereus in 2015. Oxford Brookes had won the race, which was created in 1990, three of the last four years. UW hadn’t won it since 2012.
Another Husky, rising senior Anna Thornton, won the women’s double sculls (the Stonor Challenge) along with partner Charlotte Hodgkins-Byrne.
