Understanding Lane’s protest
The critiques of Jeremy Lane’s protest fail to appreciate the breadth and the scope of the Bill of Rights and the freedom of speech that undergirds our political system.
Simply put, Lane has the unfettered right to refuse to stand for the national anthem at patriotic events like Seahawks exhibition games as a protest of police violence against the African-American community in this country.
I assume the critics also believe the Second Amendment gives them the absolute right to own a flintlock or AK-47.
