Sue Bird scored her 5,000th career point Sunday, becoming the first player in WNBA history to score 5,000 points and amass 2,000 assists.
Despite the milestone, a strong third quarter from the New York Liberty put the game out of reach for Bird and the Storm as Seattle dropped the matchup 78-62 at Madison Square Garden.
Bird, the first pick of the 2002 draft, was 3 of 7 from beyond the arc to score 14 points.
Tina Charles scored 29 points for the Liberty, who pulled away in the third quarter for their fourth straight home victory.
