State Fish and Wildlife plans to reopen some Puget Sound region rivers to pink salmon fishing in the next day or two that were closed earlier this summer due to drought-like conditions and warm water temperatures.
With the recent heavy rainfall and a dramatic drop in temperatures, it appears that river flows have increased and the water has cooled down.
The Snohomish river system is expecting a strong return of more than 1.6 million pinks, and a good portion of those fish will be moving up tributaries like the Skykomish River.
Rivers planned to reopen for fishing are the Skykomish River from its mouth up to the Sultan River mouth; Stillaguamish mainstem up to the forks; and the Nooksack River.
