Results indicate election battle ahead for Snohomish executive

After trailing slightly on primary night, Snohomish County Council Chairman Dave Somers pulled ahead of Executive John Lovick by five votes Wednesday in the race for two November ballot slots for county executive.

Somers predicted that later ballots would trend his way, but the close numbers suggest a hard fight ahead for fellow Democrat Lovick. Both candidates had just over 33 percent of the vote, in Wednesday’s tally.

The top two vote-getters advance to the general election. Republican Robert Sutherland, remained in third place Wednesday with 26 percent. Two other candidates, who raised no money for the campaign, James Robert Deal and Norm Nunnally, were at 5 and 3 percent, respectively.
