Q&A: Food banks are happy to take your extra produce

Q: Thanks to the sunny weather, our garden has produced far more produce than we can eat this year. Do food banks accept donations of homegrown vegetables?

A: There’s often a shortage of fresh vegetables and fruit to offer at food banks; hence any excess produce from home gardeners is greatly appreciated. To find out where and how to donate excess home grown vegetables to food banks and other meal programs, visit the Solid Ground website, and click on the “Where to Donate” link.

If you have excess fruit to share, go to cityfruit.
