Money has not come by easily for Rio-bound former UW track athlete Jeremy Taiwo. The Renton native has spoken passionately about how difficult it is for decathletes to raise money to support themselves while training because their sport isn’t as glamorous as some of the other disciplines in track and field, and at one point, he had to move home to live with his parents and made only about $15,000 a year while training to fulfill his his Olympic dream. To get himself to the Olympic trials this year, he had to start a crowdfunding effort on GoFundMe.
Things are looking up for Taiwo, however.
