No. 24 California women fend off Huskies with late surge

BERKELEY, Calif. — Kristine Anigwe had 26 points and 10 rebounds as No. 24 California turned back Washington 69-60 in a Pac-12 women’s basketball game Friday night.

Penina Davidson chipped in 18 and nine rebounds for the Golden Bears (12-4, 3-2). Asha Thomas had 14 points and eight assists, while Mikayla Cowling contributed 11 assists.

Amber Melgoza led the Huskies (6-10, 0-5) with 15 points, five rebounds and six assists, but she made only 5 of 18 shots. Hannah Johnson had 13 points and 11 rebounds for UW, and Mai-Loni Henson scored 13 points. The Huskies are still looking for their first Pac-12 win under new coach Jody Wynn.
