CONWAY, S.C. — Nick Kahle hit a grand slam to highlight Washington’s six-run second inning as the Huskies posted a major upset, knocking off Coastal Carolina 11-6 in the NCAA baseball regionals Saturday.
Coastal Carolina (43-18) is the host school for the Conway Regional, but now gets sent to the losers’ bracket while the Huskies (32-23), the third-seed in the four-team regional, are 2-0 and will have to be beaten twice to not advance to a Super Regional next weekend.
The Huskies had 14 hits against the Chanticleers from the Sun Belt Conference.
Braiden Ward had three hits for UW, while Kahle, Mason Cerrillo, Levi Jordan and AJ Graffanino added two each.
