Next week, Marymoor Park will host concerts by two remarkable bands, both of whom represent alternative routes to success in today’s music business. Though they play different genres of music, Alabama Shakes and Wilco are each iconoclastic, which is refreshing in a pop world that is increasingly homogenous.
Alabama Shakes is up first, with a show on Saturday (Aug. 8). The band literally started in a trailer in 2009. The members were drawn together by their love of traditional soul music, which wasn’t the popular genre within their early-20s age group.
When singer Brittany Howard first played with the guys in the band, magic happened.
