The pregame buzz, which included a dunk contest, had the feel of heavyweight championship bout. And Tuesday’s nightcap at the Les Scwhab Invitational didn’t disappoint the capacity crowd at Lincoln High in Hillsboro, Ore.
It was a much-anticipated semifinal pairing between No. 4 DeMatha Catholic, a private school in Hyattsville, Maryland led by Washington-bound senior Markelle Fultz against No. 3 Garfield High, Seattle’s basketball powerhouse that includes a handful of UW targets (juniors Daejon Davis, Jaylen Nowell and freshman PJ Fuller).
DeMatha fell behind by 10 points at the start and trailed by three early in the fourth quarter before running away from the Bulldogs in the final frame and claiming a 74-64 victory.
