BELLINGHAM — A Bellingham man has been sentenced to three years in prison for stabbing two veterinary workers at two separate animal hospitals after his cat died.
The Bellingham Herald reports that Charles Anthony Smith was sentenced Wednesday. He pleaded guilty in June to two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of unlawful display of a weapon.
Prosecutors say he was angry about the animal’s death when he went to the Maplewood Animal Hospital at about 8:15 a.m. and attacked one of the veterinarians with a kitchen knife. He then went to the Fountain clinic where he stabbed an employee in the neck without saying a word.
