Lake Stevens High School quarterback Jacob Eason was named the 2015-2016 Gatorade National Football Player of the Year on Tuesday.
In a surprise ceremony featuring Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner, the 6-foot-5, 204-pounder also announced he was sticking by his verbal commitment to play for the University of Georgia next season.
Eason, the son of former NFL signal caller Tony Eason, had been deciding between Georgia, Florida and Washington after taking official visits to each school in the last several weeks.
Eason completed 235 of 338 pass attempts for 3,585 yards and 43 touchdowns against just six interceptions this season while leading the Vikings to the semifinals of the 4A state tournament, where they lost to eventual state runner-up Skyline.
