King County deputy fired for sleeping on the job

A King County sheriff’s deputy is being fired for sleeping on the job.

King County Sheriff John Urquhart is firing a deputy caught sleeping on the job.

KING-TV reported that Urquhart told Deputy Joel Anderson in a July 21 termination letter that he will be fired Saturday.

Anderson is accused of sleeping on duty in January, and of leaving his Vashon Island post before the end of his shift.

Urquhart told Anderson it’s not the first time the deputy has been caught sleeping on duty and that it’s “egregious” because he is the only backup for his patrol partner on Vashon.
