Smith on Petersen: "I will always be indebted to that man."

Chris Petersen’s coaching tree is in full bloom these days.

Jonathan Smith was introduced Thursday as the new head coach at Oregon State, his alma mater, becoming the second former Petersen assistant to take over this year at a Pac-12 North program.

Justin Wilcox, 41, just finished his first season as a head coach at California, helping the Bears to solid 5-7 finish in a rebuilding year.

The 38-year-old Smith has been UW’s offensive coordinator the past four seasons, and one of the first people he thanked during a press conference in Corvallis was Petersen.
