Housing affordability: Where’s the evidence for the mayor’s housing plan?

The guest column by the Housing Affordability and Livability Advisory (HALA) Committee’s co-chairs makes many assertions about the panel’s affordable-housing plan for Seattle without offering evidence that the plan would produce its desired results [“Housing will become even more unaffordable if Seattle doesn’t act now,” Opinion, July 27]. Saying that “deliberate planning is required to ensure that Seattle’s housing market is accessible now and in the future” isn’t proof of anything.

The authors’ assertion that the city can allow more town houses and cottages in single-family neighborhoods without changing their character strains belief. It’s the same as saying I won’t change the character of my pepperoni pizza if I add pineapple.
