The game had just ended Saturday evening, and Donnie Schwendeman was packing up gear on the Husky Stadium sideline when he felt a tap on his shoulder.
He turned to see Myles Gaskin.
The Huskies’ star running back wanted a word. And he wanted a hug.
Schwendeman has been part of the Husky Stadium chain crew for 12 years. There are six men on the home-team sideline crew, each assigned a specific task to manage the orange signal poles, or sticks. For Saturday’s Washington-Oregon State game, Schwendeman was in charge of the clip that indicates a yard marker on the chain between the sticks.
