Fire crews expected to double at Wolverine fire

The Wolverine fire has burned more than 25,000 acres. Poor fire-conditions are expected through Wednesday.

Infrared imaging taken from a helicopter overnight shows the Wolverine fire near Lake Chelan has grown to 25,634 acres, about 1,000 more than reported Monday evening. As the wildfire grows, so does the number of firefighters responding.

About 260 firefighters, including four helicopter crews and other support personnel, were working on the wildfire Monday. “That number will likely double in the next few days,” said fire information officer Ada Takacs.

Takacs said firefighters will likely face challenging conditions. Gusty winds and low humidity are expected in the area through Wednesday.
