Ex-UW receiver breaks record, loses shot at island

John Ross, former wide receiver from the University of Washington, broke Chris Johnson's 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Washington receiver John Ross III has run the 40-yard dash in a record-setting 4.22 seconds at the NFL scouting combine.

Ross completed the feat on his first attempt Saturday, breaking Chris Johnson's record of 4.24 seconds in 2008.

According to SB Nation, Ross would have been eligible to receive a private island from Adidas had he worn that company's footwear while breaking the record.
