Former Washington Huskies star Brandon Roy has been hired as the boys basketball coach at Nathan Hale High School, two sources confirmed Friday.
Roy, a former Garfield High School standout, was the 2005-06 Pac-10 Player of the Year at UW. He played in the NBA from 2006-13 (and was a three-time All-Star and the 2006-07 NBA Rookie of the Year) before being forced to retire because of knee injuries. This is Roy’s first coaching job.
Besides a new coach, Nathan Hale also will have two new players: five-star recruit Michael Porter Jr. and his younger brother, Jontay.
