SAMMAMISH — Corey Pereira is a proven front-runner, so the eventual outcome of the Sahalee Players Championship might not be in much doubt.
Pereira, who just finished his sophomore year with the Washington golf team, jumped out to a six-stroke lead at the halfway point, thanks mostly to a 6-under 30 on the back nine at Sahalee Country Club.
Pereira, the 38th-ranked amateur in the world, shot a 65-70, a 9-under 135 during the 36 holes Monday.
Last summer, Pereira ran away with the Pacific Coast Amateur when he had a 62 in the second round at Pine Canyon in Flagstaff, Ariz.
