For the first time since 2002, teams from China will be back to compete in the Windermere Cup, and will be the headline opponent for the University of Washington men’s and women’s crew teams in the May 16 event.
UW men’s coach Michael Callahan and UW women’s coach Yaz Farooq said Thursday that they expect stiff competition from the Shanghai High-Performance rowing teams.
“I know how good China is, and I think they will bring very good rowers,” Callahan said.
The China squads will also bring along a very good coach.
