Thank you for publishing, “Seattle’s richest, whitest areas dominate campaign giving, say reform backers” [Local News, July 22]. Seeing how money flows into Seattle elections was truly disappointing, but not at all shocking.
I remember staying up late on election night to watch the returns as a child. The unfathomable scope of representative democracy, and its ability to empower voters and incite change, was incredibly exciting.
But when I moved to Seattle after college, I didn’t even register to vote. It was clearly childish to think that elections were about voters and communities — they’re about money.
