Michigan State has had a gravitational pull toward .500 for most of the last 50 years. Ever since winning a share of the National Championship in 1966, they have converged like clockwork back toward a .500 record. Even Nick Saban won 6-7 games in four of his five years in East Lansing. Sure, they had a tremendous run under Mark Dantonio (six 11+ win seasons in an eight year span) and a handful of very memorable skill-position players (Plexico Burress, Charles Rogers, Leveon Bell and others), but even the likes of Dantonio and Mel Tucker eventually end up going 7-6, 5-7, or something in between.
