Affordable housing: Rent control hurts small-unit landlords

I am one of the many landlords with small-unit buildings, and can assure you that we are not making a killing on our investments [“Lessons learned on rent control,” Opinion, July 28].

The only reason I can continue to offer my units at near or below market rates is that my building is almost paid off (after more than 20 years), and it has all the basics (such as dishwashers) but none of the extra froufrou (such as exercise equipment, high-speed Internet included, brand-new kitchens and baths, granite countertops).

Also, rents don’t always go up.
