THE spike in shootings in Seattle means that this could be a long, hot summer in more ways than one. We’ve already had many incidents of violence across America, especially in our urban communities. This violence has many causes, including questionable acts by some law-enforcement officers.
But we also have countless young men — many of them gang members — committing violent acts against each other. Innocent people are often caught in the crossfire. What causes this violence?
The No. 1 problem in our country today is not guns, gangs, crime, drugs or alcohol. It’s fatherlessness. Too many of our young people do not have fathers actively engaged in their lives.
