The Mariners couldn’t do much against Brewers’ starter Brian Givens after the first two innings in a 4-3 loss at the Kingdome. Seattle starter Salomon Torres couldn’t figure out how to get out Milwaukee’s Australian-born outfielder Dave Nilsson. Torres gave up a two-run single in the top of the first.
Seattle answered with a two-run double from Mike Blowers off Brewers’ starter Brian Givens in the bottom of the first and took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the second on Chris Widger’s solo home run to deep left.
But Nilsson got to Torres again, belting a two-run homer in the top of the third.
