150 engineers in Seattle will work on testing of Mitsubishi jet

Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. will more than double the staff at its new engineering center to 150 by next year, officials said as they formally opened the south Seattle facility Monday.

One hundred U.S. nationals and about 50 Mitsubishi Aircraft engineers from Japan will work there on analyzing flight test data to get new Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) certified and into service with airlines.

The MRJ is Japan’s first all-new plane in decades. It’s aimed at the market for regional jets with 70 to 100 seats, just below the capacity of the smallest jets built by Boeing and Airbus.
