What started as a way to fend off a neighborhood bully has turned into a niche in weight rooms across the league.
Redskins assistant strength and conditioning coach Joe Kim is unique in that unlike a majority, if not all, of the men in his position, he’s a 7th Dan Black Belt who specializes in skill development with pass rushers, linemen and receivers.
He said he became inspired to learn to defend himself after being bullied as a kid.
“This kid down the street kept taking my glasses off that my mom would pay 400 bucks for, which back in 1974 that was a lot of money for a school nurse.
