The Washington Redskins cut 10 players Saturday and two more Tuesday to help reduce their roster to 75. Here’s a closer look at the first cuts:
Most significant move: Releasing Perry Riley and Stephen Paea. Riley, a fourth-round pick by Washington in 2010, was coming off a foot injury and couldn’t beat out Mason Foster and therefore would have been an expensive backup ($5 million cap hit). Paea, who received a four-year, $21-million contract last offseason, was signed to provide a pass rush but wasn’t helping in that area. Therefore, he was another expensive backup made expendable when they signed Cullen Jenkins Monday.
