RICHMOND — Redskins punter Tress Way remembers Washington’s first game of the 2014 regular season for two reasons.
First, the game on the road against the Houston Texans marked Way’s career debut in the NFL. The Redskins claimed the now 25-year-old second-year punter in late August last year after the Chicago Bears waived him.
Way won the 2014 job despite not joining the team until before the third of four preseason games.
The second reason why he’ll never forget traveling to Houston for that 17-6 loss at NRG Stadium is before the game he finally got to meet veteran Texans punter Shane Lechler, his longtime idol and the player after which he modeled his game while growing up in Tulsa, Okla.
