In his first offseason as the Washington Redskins' general manager, Scot McCloughan made it clear that the team would build through the draft, but use free agency to their advantage some, too, especially when it came to find quality veterans who have tasted success at other stops.
“I honestly think the draft is the lifeline of your organization, but also you’ve got to understand with free agency that’s a tool that you can use and you can use it in a positive manner,” McCloughan said at his introductory press conference in January.
Four of his first five free agent acquisitions made it clear that he wanted to bring in those that have been with teams that are traditional winners.
