The Redskins on Saturday placed backup outside linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat on injured reserve and promoted practice squad member Houston Bates to the 53-man roster. But coach Jay Gruden said on Wednesday that a desire to find improved special teams contributors also played a factor in the roster move.
“Special-teams wise, he’s a pretty good special teams player for us, and we thought it was important to get him up and just decided to make a change,” Gruden said of Bates.
