Report: Washington has released Alex Smith; Now have over $54 million in cap space

The report came out on Monday that the Washington Football Team was expected to release QB Alex Smith by the end of the week. Friday night has been a good night to dump news that isn’t pleasant. That was probably the plan, but the leak has been moved up after a report came out this morning that the NFL investigation into the organization has recommended that owner Dan Snyder sell the team.

Alex Smith, the Comeback Player of the Year, will not be coming back to Washington. The team officially released him today, making him a free agent and saving the WFT $14.
