Redskins' run game, defense need close examination during bye week

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins practice for the only time this week before shutting down for the bye. Here are three areas of interest:

  1. The defense. As the Redskins head into the bye week, the defense must be at or near the top of things that need fixing. Yes, injuries have hit here too, but there were problems before Ryan Kerrigan was hurt in the first quarter Sunday. And the injuries at corner don’t explain the problems stopping the run. The Redskins allow an average of 6.02 yards per play, which is 29th in the NFL.
