It’s been reported by Grant Paulsen that the Washington Redskins have chosen to use the Franchise tag on quarterback Kirk Cousins. Today was the deadline for NFL teams to use the Franchise tag was today and the Redskins have chosen this route.
There was speculation that the Redskins would use the Transition Tag on Cousins but that was not to be. By using the non-exclusive Franchise tag the Skins will allow Cousins to talk to other teams about a long-term deal but they retain the right to match any offer to Cousins.
If Cousins gets no offers from other teams then the Redskins will have to pay him $19.
