Redskins still seeking takeaways, even with a depleted secondary

Just two teams in the NFL have only one takeaway through three game: the Jaguars and the Redskins.

Along with the lack of sacks, the defense hasn’t created turnovers through the early part of the season. Rookie linebacker Preston Smith forced the team’s only turnover on a sack fumble in the season opener against the Dolphins. Despite the struggles in that category, defensive coordinator Joe Barry doesn’t feel the need to chance his philosophy to create over takeaways.

“I’m a firm believer too that takeaways come in droves and you don’t know when they’re going to happen,” Barry said.
