Thursday was a good day for Redskins defensive lineman Daron Payne: he officially clarified the spelling of his name — and signed his four-year, $14 million rookie contract.
Daron Payne, drafted with the 13th overall pick, is no longer “Da’Ron.” Payne prefers the spelling be “Daron,” according to the Redskins’ Stephen Czarda. For years, places, including Alabama’s website, listed him as Da’Ron.
More importantly, for the Redskins, the Alabama product inked his deal ahead of the team’s rookie minicamp on Friday.
Payne, according to NFL Network, got a $8.56 million signing bonus — becoming the first, first-rounder in 2018 to sign his rookie contract.
