ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins' struggling defense hopes it has found some answers at safety -- or at least some solid help after signing veteran safety Donte Whitner, shortly after adding another free agent at that position, Josh Evans.
Both players were on the field Wednesday for the Redskins. Whitner, a three-time Pro Bowler, is the headliner because of his background. He was the eighth overall pick by Buffalo in the 2006 draft before signing with San Francisco in 2011.
He spent the past two years with Cleveland but was released by the Browns in April and was not in anyone's camp this summer, though he did have workouts with other teams.
