Redskins running back Chris Thompson not present for Thursday’s practice

Redskins running back Chris Thompson and defensive end wasn’t among the players taking part Thursday when the team held its first practice in preparation for Sunday’s game at Chicago.

Thompson has emerged as a valuable part of Washington’s struggling running game, and a helpful third-down receiving target, as well. But his availability for Sunday is in question after an MRI exam on Tuesday revealed he’d torn a labrum. Coach Jay Gruden acknowledged Wednesday that the shoulder injury was “a concern.”

Also unaccounted for was safety Jeron Johnson, who is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Defensive end Stephen Paea was previously ruled out of Sunday’s game, expected to miss one to two weeks with Grade 2 turf toe, so his absence was understandable.
