There were signs in Sunday’s 47-14 blowout win over the New Orleans Saints that the Washington Redskins had improved defensively against a potent offense, particularly in the second half.
In the first half, though, it was more or less the same issues we’ve seen from the Redskins. They allowed explosive plays because of their inability to tackle properly, despite the emphasis on this fundamental element during practice over the last month. It was most notable in their run defense, which allowed more than 100 yards for the fifth straight game this season.
“It gets old after a while just for the simple fact that the common theme has been tackling,” defensive coordinator Joe Barry said.
