The Washington Redskins needed to add pass rushing to their defense in the offseason and they made it appoint to do it by signing a free agent like Junior Galette and they also used a second round draft pick to take rookie outside linebacker Preston Smith.
The Redskins liked Smith’s combination of size (6’4, 270) and athleticism so they took him early in the draft. While Smith has struggled some in training camp as most rookies do, his performance in the Redskins first preseason game suggests that he’s learned a lot too.
With Ryan Kerrigan not playing and Galette still not playing yet either, Smith started at outside linebacker and had a chance for some extensive playing time.
