Saturday’s afternoon practice session of the Washington Redskins‘ rookie minicamp had concluded, and upon learning from coach Jay Gruden during the team huddle that he had canceled Sunday’s on-field session as a reward for their hard work, many of the 65 players cheered and jogged to the locker room with smiles on their faces.
Linebacker Preston Smith had more work to do, however. He spoke briefly with defensive coordinator Joe Barry, then defensive line coach Robb Akey and then walked over to defensive assistant Joe Kim, who began drilling Smith in an exercise that looked more like a hand-to-hand combat training session than something football related.
