Rookie linebacker Preston Smith was in for just 12 plays in his NFL debut against the Dolphins last Sunday. Expect that number to climb as the season progresses, according to defensive coordinator Joe Barry.
“Preston is definitely able and ready to play more,” Barry said. “He will play more.”
The Redskins operate on a series rotation at linebacker, which can lead to an uneven distribution of snaps at the position. Smith was on the field for the fewest number of plays among the five Redskins linebackers used on defense last week, but the rookie flashed his potential on his first career sack in the third quarter.
