Mason Foster had made it through all but two days of the NFL offseason without being cut, so it came as at least a modest surprise when the Washington Redskins informed Foster of his release earlier today. Their intent was first reported by NBC Sports anchor Erin Hawksworth, and then confirmed by various Redskins beat reporters.
Foster’s release comes as a surprise only due to its timing; in most other facets, it’s a move that makes sense. Foster was a liability in coverage last season, and at his current contract number, he was not a cost-effective piece of the Redskins roster.
