ASHBURN — Redskins tight end Vernon Davis suffered a concussion in Sunday’s loss to the New York Giants and is in concussion protocol, coach Jay Gruden said Wednesday.
Gruden said Davis, who played the entire contest, reported concussion symptoms after the game.
Davis joins a banged up group of Redskins, including fellow tight end Jordan Reed. Reed has not practiced since Sept. 18 and has yet to play this season since suffering a concussion — the seventh documented one of his career — on Aug. 22 in the preseason.
If Davis can’t play, that means Jeremy Sprinkle will become the Redskins’ starting tight end Sunday against the New England Patriots.
