Redskins owner Daniel Snyder took part in a groundbreaking Wednesday in Richmond’s East End for a football-themed playground to be constructed on a vacant lot next to an elementary school. Part of the NFL’s “Play 60” campaign designed to encourage children to get 60 minutes of activity each day, the $150,000 project is being underwritten by the Bon Secours Virginia Health System, a sponsor of the Redskins’ training camp facility in Richmond, and the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation.
Flanked by Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones and four other officials, Snyder told the audience of about 100, which included representatives of the Redskins, the city’s school system and neighborhood children, that he hoped the playground would make a difference in the health and well-being of the community.
